Spike Lee’s Katrina: The Original Kings of Conspiracy

In what promises to be devoid of facts and heavy on racial overtones, director Spike Lee announced he is making a film for HBO about the post-Hurricane Katrina flooding in New Orleans.

According to Lee:

“[I] wouldn’t be shocked if conspiracy theories of intentional government involvement in the flooding proved true.”

Lee added further:

“I don’t put anything past the United States government,” Lee said. “I don’t find it too far-fetched that they tried to displace all the black people out of New Orleans.”

Well, Independent Sources won’t be surprised if it isn’t a rehash of the same moronic “theories” that have already been severely debunked. However the wonderful thing about conspiracy theories is how hard they are to squash. Scientific proof shows that the levees weren’t blown up? No problem just more proof of a cover-up especially if any of the scientists or engineers on the story were white!

Lee has not had commercial success in a long time is getting desperate to get back into the public eye. His last escapade was suing Viacom because he believed that the name of their network (“Spike”) infringed on his ownership of that name. Since Viacom is owned primarily by white people, it is possible that they decided to use the name just to keep Mr. Lee down–since that is the type of thing that “the man” will do to an enterprising individual like Mr. Lee. We can laugh all we want but he ended up getting bought off by Viacom so strike up another gain for a frivolous lawsuit by a deranged individual.

All kidding aside, it’s too bad that Mr. Lee doesn’t see the damage he causes by perpetuating myths to the very people he supposedly cares about. Snakeoil salesmen rarely do.
