Howard Dean Shows No Statement is too Irrelevant to Make His Point
From the Democratic Party web site:
Without Social Security, Poverty Rate for Hispanic Seniors Would Increase Three-Fold. If not for Social Security, the poverty rate for older Hispanic Americans would nearly triple from 19% to 55%. 41% of older Hispanic beneficiaries rely on Social Security for their only source of retirement income.
This certainly is a good argument for not eliminating Social Security but no one is talking about that. The discussion has been what to do about funding it since demographic trends will bankrupt it at its current funding levels. Unfortunately that doesn’t make a good sound bite for Mr. Dean. Isn’t he worried about insulting the intelligence of the very audience he is tryting to woo? Not likely.
Up next, Howard Dean announces that if not for schools, young Hispanics and African Americans would have nowhere to learn! If you think I’m exaggerating, check out Boxer Watch.
