When Marketing People Use Math

Bought this three pack of batteries the other day.
The small print under “50% MORE BATTERIES” reads “than other leading brands’ every day 2-pack” Compelling. And true! |

This reminds me (and this comment will give you a clue about how old I am) of back in the early 1970s when Ford put the Mustang on a diet. They changed a little of the trim and started selling the Mercury Capri as a Mustang. Only problem was, it was several hundred pounds heavier than any other car in its class. Anyone who know racing knows that racecar classes have minimum weights, because (among other reasons) a lighter car will accelerate faster, corner faster and brake quicker. So, the dim bulbs in the ad agency used the slogan “hundreds more pounds of road-hugging weight.” Right. Oh, well, I guess the more things change, the more they remain the same.
