LAT Tip-toeing with NOPD Looting Headline
- You saw the MSNBC video of New Orleans PD looting
- You saw the photographs of New Orleans PD looting
- You read Independent Sources “Caught on Camera: NOPD Looting”
Now read the Los Angeles Times headline:
New Orleans Police Investigate Possible Looting by Officers”
As the story continues in the printed edition it gets this headline on another page:
”Looting by Police in New Orleans is Alleged“
“Possible” and “Alleged”?
The looting was far more than possible and alleged, it was real, witnessed and videotaped. This is apparent if you read the Times article, but as so often is the case with the Times if you are skimming the paper and reading headlines you can come out with a distinctly different impression. (Another example of this is here).
