Tour of Hope is Underway

Tour of Hope

25 cyclists are teamed up riding roughly 100 miles a day in a 9 day tour from San Diego to Washington DC. The riders, who include cancer survivors, physicians, researchers, nurses and relatives of cancer patients and victims, will alternate cycling and shuttling as the tour moves across the U.S.

Lance Armstrong, the person most associated with cancer surviving and cycling, will accompany the riders at various stages. His personal coach, Chris Carmichael is also involved.

Besides raising awareness and funds, this Tour is notable for its promotion of the relatively new field of research that cancer survivors should step up their physical activity rather than take it easy. Armstrong himself went against his doctor’s orders in riding up to 50 miles during his chemotherapy.

This topic is of particular relevance to Independent Sources because our good friend Patrick C. incorporated Ironman racing into his cancer treatment and recovery.

See link above for additional information and blogger Operation Gadget has detailed coverage including a GPS map of the tour’s progress.
