Memorial Ride for Scott Bleifer and Stanislov Ionov
Memorial Ride for Scott Bleifer and Stanislov Ionov
This morning several hundred cyclists rode north on the Pacific Coast Highway past the very site where Scott Bleifer and Stas Ionov were struck and killed. The cyclists rode to pay tribute to Bleifer and Ionov and hopefully to send a message to as many people as possible that road conditions need to be improved for bicyclists.
Bleifer was killed while training for a week-long San Francisco to Los Angeles Arthritis Foundation Ride. That same ride, now dedicated to his memory, finished in Santa Monica this afternoon and where a memorial service will be conducted. This day was chosen by his friends, family and fellow riders as it also commemorates what would have been Bliefer’s celebrated return to Los Angeles.

Above is the start in Santa Monica. Below is the turn around in Malibu. The LAPD provided a motorcycle escort the entire route (even though the majority of the ride was outside of the city limits). This escort made the ride safer and more enjoyable. (Thank you LAPD.)

The overwhelming respect for Scott from his frineds and fellow cyclists has touched the heart of my wife, daughter and I. I wish to thank everyone for their comments. It makes us proud that he touched so many people in such a short time.
