Flight 93 Docudrama: Let’s TIVO!
The Flight That Fought Back is the made-for-Discovery Channel reconstruction of the events of 9/11’s Flight 93 and is being broadcast this Sunday–the 4th year anniversary of the attacks.
While this docudrama has the ability to be absolutely awful whether by being overly (and unrealistically) politically correct (as in let’s not make the murdering hijackers look Arabic) or by making it too gung-ho, it is generally getting good reviews.
It was 15 minutes from the terrorists’ target in Washington, D.C., and “The Flight That Fought Back” (Sunday night at 9) endeavors to tell why, blessedly, that hijacked flight literally fell short. Most recordings are actual, and identified as such. When they’re re-created, their sources are cited. Some are friends or relatives on the other end of the conversations; others are summaries of unreleased cockpit recordings heard by several independent witnesses.
Four years later, some questions remain, but one thing is clear: “The Flight That Fought Back” honors those it depicts, rather than exploits them.
We hope that Oliver Stone watches and more importantly learns from it.
hat tip: Dave Barry (and a special nod to Brainy Jello for their telling comment “Some things need to be remembered.”)
