Barbara Boxer: No Newt Gingrich

As we eagerly await the October 20 publication of Barbara Boxer’s novel “A Time to Run,” The Oregonian has a wrap up (simple reg req’d) of other politician’s efforts writing fiction. Summary: with the exception of Newt Gingrich, they should stick to memoirs.

We’re guessing that with a synopsis like this …

The novel follows Ellen Fines from her days as a college student through romantic entanglements and a difficult marriage to a rising political star. When her husband is killed in a car accident during his campaign for the Senate, Ellen assumes his candidacy and achieves an upset victory over a political machine. On the eve of a crucial vote, past and public worlds collide when Ellen’s former lover, now a journalist with strong right-wing connections, gives her sensitive documents that could either make or break her career.

… Boxer will see the same type of review Jimmy Carter did (the Oregonian: “unbelievable … uninteresting … painful”)
