Caught On Camera: New Orleans PD Looting

This photo and caption are not out of context. Click on the link below to see the police being interviewed while looting. Their insolent audacity is remarkable. When the mayor of New Orleans had said that police had more important things to do than protect businesses from looters we thought he meant saving lives. We were wrong. When Celine Dion said that the looters were so poor that they may have never had a chance to even touch such things, we didn’t think she was talking about NOPD. We were wrong.
If you watch the clip you see that the police are in no hurry to save lives, stop looters or do anything else remotely for the public good. It is absolutely shocking considering what is going on in other parts of the city. The message here is that the attitude was that someone else needed to come in and save people and this was certainly not the responsibility of New Orleans local law enforcement.
Having seen how NOPD are taking care of their own, it’s going to be hard to stomach hearing city officials complaining that not enough was done for them. (Note: this comment is purely directed at the largely inept city officials and not the majority of the victims who were dodging bullets while these cops were ransacking Walmart.)
Update: Captain’s Quarters on the ineptitude of local government for failing to learn any lessons from last year’s dry run.

Well I don’t agree with your comment which you might have written just to bait other extreme comments, however I will respond as if you are serious just the same.
I don’t think race should have been brought into this by Jackson et. al nor do I believe it should be in your comment. I don’t believe that the mistakes made in the recovery efforts had anything to do with race nor class or discrimination, etc.
I think that the mayor of New Orleans f**ked up but not because of the color of his skin but because he is just a lousy finger pointing not-my-fault kind of guy. While we showed a photo of two police looters who happened to be black I know that there were thousands of acts of heroism by people who just happened to be black too.
Again, let’s keep race out of this. The point is that cops who loot should be treated like any other looters. These two obviously well-fed individuals, with good jobs, and responsibility to be saving lives were instead picking up new shoes and other things for themselves. Regardless of the color of the skin that makes me sick to my stomach and I someday hope to read that they are serving time with their fellow criminals.

I agree with a lot of things said about N.O. but good is good and it comes in all flavors and it’s all good. Bad is always bad just like rotten meat and should be cast to the dogs and they may puke it back up. It stinks of rotteness and when you read something wrong you can smell it.
But I’ve found good people are everwhere and so is the spoiled meat. The issues with the N.O. Goverment is not about race, religion, sex or politicks but about good and bad, right and wrong.
The two Police Captains so far have both said that their Officers were under a lot of stress. Our military is supposed to operate corectly under stress and so are law inforcement officers. As far as that goes so our elected officials. Should stress be a factor where they do right or wrong? These people have guns to kill you with. All of them. The law gives them the right. Some of our Goverment officials have even more weapons.
When a person puts on a uniform of either our law inforcement officers or military then he agrees to live by a code of conduct. He swears to that. If there are people that are over them that won’t or can’t controll them, then they should be charged right along with them. They have sworn to a code of conduct also. That code of conduct is to uphold the law no matter who or what race, religion, sex or national origion you are. Even if you or they are under a lot of stress.
No amount of stress is an excuse for any person to do wrong. Not a President down to the police. Not even a parent or child.
Seperate the good apples from the bad, the truth from fiction.
I think a lot of elected officials in N.O. and our Goverment are afraid to be honest and that’s a damn shame.

Stress is no excuse for looting. If you look at the two police officers (hopefully ex-officers by now) who are filmed looting they are anything but stressed. They are purely opportunistic. This was at the peak of the crisis and people were dying while these two (and probably more) were taking their sweet time grabbing non-essentials along with everyone else in the Walmart.
