LAT finds an expert on minority fleecing to quote on story about minority fleecing

You can call the Los Angeles Times a lot of things (heck, we at Independent Sources certainly do), but don’t call them lazy on this story about Bush nominee Roland Arnall. To get a quote about the supposed fleecing of minorities by the nominee, the LAT unearthed a source who had been accused of that exact same charge. Who better would know what minority fleecing means than someone whose been accused of doing it themselves?

Now a lot of papers would have steered clear of a source like Nativo Lopez, once he’d been recalled from an Orange County school district, but then the LAT isn’t a lot of papers.

Next up: Richard Scrushy giving his perspective on the wrongful termination lawsuit by disgraced South Gate Treasurer Albert Robles.

Oh, and he wants the terrorists to be able to drive across the border without worrying about showing their jihad ID cards…

“Rallying outside the governor’s offices in Los Angeles, a few activists vowed today to protect recently signed legislation allowing immigrants to obtain driver’s licenses.
“As of today, Hermandad Mexicana Latinoamericana is going to take a leading role in the fight to protect the driver’s license bill, and ensure it goes into effect on Jan. 1,” said Nativo Lopez, national director of the immigrants’ rights group.
Signed into law by outgoing Gov. Gray Davis last month, Senate Bill 60 enables immigrants to obtain driver’s licenses regardless of their residency status…. Critics called the bill another incentive for immigrants to come to California illegally, and said terrorists could obtain the state-issued identification.” – City News Service October 10, 2003 Friday

Lockyer Turns Blind Eye to Democratic Activist, Nativo Lopez

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 15 /PRNewswire/ — Public Interest Watch (“PIW”) today called on Attorney General Bill Lockyer to follow through on warnings issued to Hermandad Mexicana Nacional (HMN), a controversial 501(c)(3) non-profit social policy organization located in Southern California, for abusing its tax-exempt status. HMN, formerly under the guidance of Democratic activist Nativo Lopez, has failed to file its IRS tax forms or submit a renewal fee to State of California since 2003, and has ignored notices of a pending tax assessment from the Attorney General’s office.

Is Nativo’s wife still in hiding? A 2/2/98 City News service article says that “the wife of Hermandad director Nativo Lopez, Maria Rose Ibarra, left the country and was unavailable to be interviewed by a grand jury probing voter fraud activity in Orange County California. Hermandad was found to have registered 632 voters, 364 of whom actually voted in Orange County elections as determined by the Orange County District Attorney. Two dozen key witnesses in the case refused to be interviewed.” Seems like two peas in a pod.

Oh, and the latest on Nativo…he’s now a Republican! Did you see his recent support of the Governor’s initiatives including Prop. 77, on which he actually agreed to sign the ballot arguments. HMMMMMMM. Wonder what kind of deal he struck with the Governor….
