When a simple “No Comment” is best
It’s a little early to announce the most inane comment of the year award by a defense attorney (Independent Sources is still partial to the Richard Scrushy attorney who referenced the struggles of the civil rights era in a trial of an extremely wealthy white male).
But the comments made by Antonietta Sonnessa, the court-appointed lawyer of London subway attempted bomber Hussain Osman, are beyond belief.
Sonnessa said Osman had acknowledged his involvement in the attack but said the bombs were not intended to cause death or injury but only to draw attention. Quote:
“He has justified his actions as a form of protest against the fact that civilians are suffering in wars at the present time. He is not at all a violent person and made sure he would not cause any damage, injuries or deaths.”
That is an important clarification because it appears that many in the press have rushed to the judgement that planting bombs on crowded subways would make Hussain a violent person.
Similarly, his support of Jihadist causes could also easily give the misimpression that Hussain supports violence.
