The IRA Following in the Footsteps of North Korea
For those excited to read IRA Announces End of Armed Struggle, keep in mind that this isn’t the first time they’ve announced a peace deal only to later renege on it. Let’s also remember that it wasn’t that long ago they offered to shoot two members who stabbed a man in a bar fight. Are they offering to stop that too? How about bank robberies? Witness intimidation?
The IRA’s sincerity has historically been about as deep as North Korea’s. Now look at this headline:
‘So far, so good’ on Korea peace talks
Does this make you feel good? Unfortunately, it’s from 1997, though it could easily have run today. When dealing with bad people (IRA, North Korea, BTK Killer, etc.), some things just don’t get better on their own. In other words, let’s not hold our breath for the IRA to do anything differently than what they’ve historically done despite their press releases.

Yeah, well, the IRA has lost the last of it’s support in Ireland. They’re done. Thugs and drug dealers, that’s what they are and no one wants them around anymore. The “peace walls” are gone and NI is a radically different place than it was during the Good Friday agreements. Sure, there is still hatred and tensions and all but the IRA knows they’re done. Now if the PIRA, the Ulster Unionists and all the other sectarian groups would get on board, maybe they really could get those damn brits out
