We are a Nation of Assimilated Immigrants
The belief that we are a nation of assimilated immigrants is the keystone of an article by the Claremont Institute’s Center for Local Government.
Legal immigration has been at the heart of this country’s success and will be for the foreseeable future. This fact is why we at Independent Sources become uncomfortable when the discussion of securing borders and clamping down on illegal immigration gets confused with maintaining a healthy flow of legal immigrants. If you excuse the colloquialism, we fear”the baby being thrown out with the bath water.”
Along with the expected divisions between the political left and political right on this issue, there are fractures within the conservative party, and there are two bills in under discussion in the Senate hearing that reveal the differences between them. With exaggerated rhetoric being the lingua franca of politicians and talk radio, it is quite difficult understand the facts on which to make an informed decision. The Claremont Institute at the link above (as well as the links contained in the article) has taken a crack at describing the current state of affairs — a very good place to start.
