Out of the Mainstream Groups Say Roberts Is … Out of the Mainstream
IowaHawk is spot on with this fill-in-the-blanks press release opposing John Roberts’ nomination.
Make no mistake: no one should be fooled by the administration’s public relations efforts or JOHN ROBERTS ’s seemingly “moderate” appearance. JOHN ROBERTS has a record that suggests that HE would deny women the right to reproductive choice, stop important life-saving medical stem cell research by extending the Patriot Act to draft their unwanted fetuses, and turn these conscripted fetuses over to dangerous tax-supported ‘Creationist’ religious indoctrination laboratories. The Supreme Court is a lifetime appointment, and America needs to know whether JOHN ROBERTS supports the GOP’s secret plan of a Rush Limbaugh Jesus army of unwanted, unquestioning fetus zombies programmed to urinate on the Korans of Guantanamo detainees.
There is much more. And it’s sadly true! Here is what ProChoiceAmerica.org (NARAL) has on its website:
Just as we feared, President Bush nominated a right-wing judicial activist with an anti-choice track record to the Supreme Court: John Roberts.
and MoveOn.org:
In nominating John Roberts, the president has chosen a right wing corporate lawyer and ideologue for the nation’s highest court instead of a judge who would protect the rights of the American people. Working for mining companies, Roberts opposed clean air rules and worked to help coal companies strip-mine mountaintops. He worked with Ken Starr (yes, that Ken Starr), and tried to keep Congress from defending the Voting Rights Act. He wrote that Roe v. Wade should be “overruled,” and as a lawyer argued (and won) the case that stopped some doctors from even discussing abortion.
and The Alliance For Justice, which for Roberts’ 2003 nomination to the DC Circuit previewed all this when they wrote:
John Roberts’ legal career and professional writings reveal that he is out of the mainstream in his legal views in a number of areas, most prominently civil rights and the right to choose. His record as a member of the Bush and Reagan administrations reflects opposition to the rights of women and minorities, as well as a restrictive view of the proper role of federal courts in protecting the environment and the rights of criminal defendants. His comments about the Rehnquist Court reveal Roberts’ extremist ideology, a view confirmed by his membership in and connections to ultra-conservative legal groups.
Does anyone listen to these absurd rants?
