BoxerWatch: Karl Rove is a Woman-Hating Meanie
California’s loopiest public official offers a bizarre new anti-Rove argument:
Maintaining a Democratic drumbeat against Rove, California Sen. Barbara Boxer said the disclosure of Plame’s identity was damaging to efforts by the CIA and other government agencies to attract more women.
“Karl Rove and this administration sought to destroy Wilson’s wife. Now is that the way we treat women who risk their lives for their country?” she said. (source: AP)
Leaving aside that
- no one has claimed that anyone sought to “destroy” Valerie Plame, and
- she sounds sexist, doesn’t she? Would it be OK to “destroy” a man?
… it sounds like Boxer must now remain silent on any female Bush judicial or executive branch nominee — their lives may not be at risk, but their professional reputations certainly are. And if Boxer sought to damage them, that could discourage future nominees.
You do want to be supportive, don’t you? Senator?

job. Luckily there are plenty of women who are tougher than that. Is EVERYTHING a gender issue??? And does Boxer have any actual data to back up her claim that efforts to recruit women are being damaged? Update: Independent Sources opines on Boxer’s quote.
