Charter School Foot-draggers Lose A Battle
Eduwonk pointed us to this story that we missed:
In a major victory for charter schools, an appeals court has ruled the Kern County School District must provide facilities for hundreds of charter students.
… The (Ridgecrest Charter School) argued Prop 39, passed by voters in 2000, required Sierra Sands to provide classrooms for 223 charter students.
The district agreed to provide nine classrooms total in five different schools spread 65 miles apart (emphasis ours - ed.).
The appeals justices said that defeated the purpose of Prop 39, which was intended equalize the treatment of students at charter schools and at district-run schools.
Despite this lack of cooperation from the bureaucracy, the school scored a 7 (of 9) on the statewide API test when compared to similar schools.
