Weekend Edition: Study Shows that Studies are Often Wrong

CNN.com reports that:

… nearly one-third of the original results [of 45 major drug studies] did not hold up, according to the report in Wednesday’s Journal of the American Medical Association.

But if 1/3 third of results from studies are wrong according to this study, how do we know that the results of this study aren’t part of the 33% that are wrong thereby negating the conclusions drawn?

Reaction from scientists that the results of their strictly controlled testing environments are not much better than a toss of a coin?

”The crazy part about science and yet the exciting part about science is you almost never have something that’s black and white,” said Dr. Catherine DeAngelis, JAMA’s editor-in-chief.

Yeah, real crazy until you find out the erectile-function drug you thought had been tested as safe will in fact make you go blind!
