Why We Appease: When the War on Terror Goes Soft

Blogger Right on the Left Beach has an interesting summary of Victor Davis Hanson’s NRO article “Our Wars Over the War.” In short, postmodern thinking tends leads to appeasement of aggressors against Western civilization.

Moral equivalence – the view that Abu Graib prison under American control and Gitmo is no better than the mass graves of dead in Saddam’s Iraq.

Utopian pacifism – one yields to one’s enemies because fighting enemies will only result in more fighting in other words there are no enemies out there that would harm us except to the extent that we try to harm them and cause them to fight back.

Multiculturalism –  the idea that all social practices are of equal merit. Who are we to generalize that the regimes and fundamentalist sects of the Middle East result in economic backwardness, intolerance of religious and ethnic minorities, gender apartheid, racism, homophobia, and patriarchy?
