I just starting contributing to Calblog and put up my first post which concerns the increasing medical costs associated with the California’s three-strikes law. In general, I support the law and believe that it has been a contributing factor to the state’s lowered crime rate. That said, according to the LA Times, there are hundreds of prisoners who cost the state over $400,000 a year in medical costs. It’s one thing to pay approximately $30k/year to house a criminal, it’s another to pay more than 10x that in annual health costs. Read the full post here.
