We Have Something Sorta Nice To Say About the LA Times’ Michael Hiltzik
Thursday was the day I expected another Michael Hiltzik diatribe against Arnold Schwarzenegger, or perhaps George Bush. His weekly pattern of late has been one business-related column and one these-guys-are-satan piece. But to my surprise, Thursday’s piece was a reasonable comparison of this fall’s “Live Within Our Means” proposition with recommendations made nine years ago by a commission appointed by Governor Pete Wilson. While commission recommendations are generally meant to be ignored (if you want to really solve a problem, do you appoint a commission?), and Hiltzik can’t help but jam in some anti-Arnold gibes (LWOM is “designed largely to enhance the governor’s grandeur”), the question of whether LWOM is the best or right approach is a valid one.
There. We’ve used up our nice quota for the month. We’ll be back to bombthrowing ASAP.
