For Celebrity Convicts, a Safe Space Behind Bars

According to the Los Angeles Times, if accused pedophile Michael Jackson is found guilty, he’ll be sent to the PHU (aka Protective Housing Unit) of Corcoran Prison in Fresno County. (Click here to visit the prison’s website complete with pictures and even a nice mission statement).

The PHU is considered the safest place for an inmate in the California prison system, and therefore the home for mass murderers such as Charles Manson and Juan Corona — and any inmate whose notoriety would make him a trophy for other inmates.

Other facts about Jackson’s new digs:

• Each cell has a concrete bed, sink, desk and toilet and are about 8’ by 12’.
• Standard prison attire is denim jeans, blue shirt and brown boots though they also get white t-shirts, white boxer shorts and a denim jacket.
• Visits are Saturday and Sunday 8 a.m. to 1:30 pm.
• Prisoners can have books but they cannot contain nudity (e.g., no Barely Legal).
• Breakfast is served from 6:30 a.m. to 7 a.m., at that time they are given a sack lunch which they can eat at any time. Dinner is served from 4:30 to 5:30.

Though the PHU is relatively small and houses only a handful of other sex offenders, the overall California prison systems houses 7,200 child molesters.
