Edwards 2008 Campaign Heading To Canada?

For Immediate Release:
Edwards 2008 Campaign Heading To Canada?

John Edwards, former plaintiff’s attorney, U.S. Senator and running mate of John Kerry in their losing 2004 presidential bid, has a problem if he intends to follow John Dean’s lead in using the Internet to mobilize youthful voters in the next election. This is because the most appropriate URL for such efforts (www.edwards2008.com) is owned by a Canadian company. This means that either Edwards is intending on campaigning north of the 54th Parallel or he’s going to have to fork over some Canadian dollars to the cybersquater.

For the record, Mr. Edwards is not alone in this situation. Los Angeles Mayor-elect Antonio Villaraigosa will be campaigning sans Antonio2009.com and Villaraigosa2009.com URLs, both of which are the property of Independent Sources.

    Rod Says:

I have just one question. Why would John Edwards campaign only in northern Canada? I think the 54th parallel is somewhere north of Edmonton. Most of Canada’s population is within 150 km of the US border, and a good chunk of that is south of the 49th parallel.
I lied, I have another question. If he were to run here, (after the usual citizenship stuff), which party would he choose? The conservative end of the Liberals? the liberal end of the Conservatives?

    Insider Says:

That’s a very astute question Rod. Our experts on Canadian politics believe that Edwards’ messages wouldn’t play out that well in the Southern parts of Canada and that he’d try to build his political base with the Inupiat
and Yupiks before venturing into more populated areas.
