BoxerWatch: More Inanity

Janice Rogers Brown, speaking to the Federalist Society at the University of Chicago Law School, April 2000:

“Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates, and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility; and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible.”

Barbara Boxer, speaking Friday in the Bay Area, after quoting the above verbatim:

“I don’t know what country she’s living in, but I think when government passes a seat-belt law, this doesn’t happen.”

I’m pretty sure Brown wasn’t talking about seat belt laws. Boxer’s inability to engage with Brown’s comments on anything but a superficial level is a reflection on both her intellect and the sad state of California statewide politics, where Boxer gets a free pass from the media, the electorate, and even the state Republican party.
