Ignore That Majority Behind The Curtain!
Yesterday we reported on a new study of American political beliefs that divides the populace into nine types. The principal takeaway from the actual Pew Research Center report was that the center has tilted Republican. Not surprisingly, you wouldn’t know it from scanning the LA Times article.
Here’s what the Pew Research Center said in their abstract:
“Coming out of the 2004 election, the American political landscape decidedly favored the Republican Party. The GOP had extensive appeal among a disparate group of voters in the middle of the electorate, drew extraordinary loyalty from its own varied constituencies, and made some inroads among conservative Democrats. These advantages outweighed continued nationwide parity in party affiliation.”
The headline and subheads in the LA Times painted a more … nuanced picture, as a certain Senator from Massachusetts would say:
- Survey of Voters Maps Subtle Splits
- A study finds that in spite of GOP gains, Republicans, Democrats and independents are divided over issues depending on their type
- ‘There’s no guarantee that Republicans have solidified their hold on things’ - Andrew Kohut, Pew Research Center
The good news is that if the house organs of the Democratic party can’t present their left-leaning readership with reasonably unbiased analysis, they’ll continue their tone-deaf ways in 2008. If this “there’s no problem, none at all” coverage results in the re-nomination of John Kerry, so much the better.
