Weekend Entertainment: CNN that we can love
Hard to imagine Independent Sources plugging CNN though they did provide the best Tsunami coverage of any of the 24/7 news outlets. However, Headline News, the longtime ignored sibling of CNN, is now the prime time home of ex-Court TV’s Nancy Grave and her firedbrand legal commentary has reinvigorated the network and given viewers a reason to once again figure out where it is in the digital line-up.
Grace is a former prosecutor as well as a victim of a very violent crime (her fiance was murdered 25 years ago 2 weeks before their wedding date) and she brings both of these perspectives into her reporting. At a time where defense attorneys seem to run loose on CNN/MSNBC/ETC., it’s nice to see someone challenging their often ridiculous remarks and holding them accountable for using technicalities to keep murderers on the streets. She often rolls here eyes if a defense pundit starts in about how we don’t really know if defendant X is guilty even though he was found at the scene of the crime with weapon in hand.
The TV-watching public is flocking to her show and ratings are up 155% over last year though liberals absolutely detest her. One would think that her success, not to mention the ongoing domination of Fox News, would be sending a signal to CBS News as they contemplate their positioning in the post-Dan Rather era. But something tells me not.
