(Another) Bad Day for the UN
Given the UN’s track record on investigating itself, one can only wonder about the real extent of the Congo sex scandal. Looking at only those allegations that the UN is copping to is bad enough, but the reality is likely much worse. The UN was called into to protect the Congolese from the civil war not use them as sex toys. Not since the Catholic Church scandals under Cardinal Law has an organization with the moral obligation to protect done such an abysmal job doing so. As with the Catholic abuse scandals a significant number of the allegations in Congo involve young boys. Hopefully Kofi Annan wont’ follow the Vatican’s example and blame the whole thing on the American media and judicial system.
