Is Britney Spears Pregnant?

In the few short weeks that the Independent Sources blog has been active, we’ve seen a dramatic increase in traffic–granted starting from a rather small base. Now that we know that people are starting to read our posts, you’ll see us continue to tighten up our editorial by citing and linking to more sources and giving more transperancy to our rants. The increase in readership also got us wondering if we should be doing more to market the blog. So we put on our marketing hats, did a little Google research on how to market blogs and found the following suggestions:

1. Cover topics that are sensational, e.g., pregnant celebs, train wrecks, earthquakes, Tsunamis, Paris Hilton…
2. Include pictures.
3. Include search engine friendly words/phrases such as: porn, slut, teen sex, NFL, poker, nude, torture, Brad Pitt, camel toe, free ring tones, Osama bin Laden, NASCAR, free MP3s, free credit reports, iPOD hacks, to name a few.
4. Implement RSS.

Unfortunately for our potential advertising sales, we won’t skew what we put on the site just to increase traffic, so don’t expect any of the above except #4 which we have implemented. (We might also add a few graphics and pictures but that is of secondary importance and will only happen when relevant to the posting.) This blog exists as a way for people to express outrage at the lack of common sense reporting thru major media and to attack ideas (whether from the left or right) that violate basic economic principles. We’d rather have a small number of people who want to read an opinion on the mis-management at King/Drew or why our schools are so screwed up that have a boatload of freaks coming to our site because they were searching for hidden dressing room webcams.
